Liverpool striker Divock Origi is now on the verge of signing for AC Milan, with the Anfield icon set to join the Italian giants on a pre-contract ahead of next season.
According to CalcioMercato, the Belgian international has reached an agreement in principle with Milan over a four-year contract, with Origi set to depart Anfield for free after eight seasons of service for the Reds.
As per the report, a transfer is ‘very close’ between Origi and Milan in a deal that will be an emotional one for Liverpool supporters given all the 26-year-old has done for the Merseyside club over the years.
The former LOSC Lille star reached legend status for Liverpool after his goals against FC Barcelona in the 2019 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, as well as his killer blow against Tottenham in the proceeding final.
However, all good things must come to an end, and with Origi never asserting himself as a regular in the Liverpool XI, a departure to Milan is the best decision for the striker, especially given the reputation of the Italian side and their current striking options.
Veteran attackers Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are Milan’s main centre-forwards, and given Origi’s age and record in both the Premier League and Europe, the Belgian is a solid replacement for the ageing strikers.
Milan is the perfect next club for Liverpool hero Origi

A Liverpool without Origi will be a strange feeling for many supporters, yet most also acknowledge that a move from Anfield is the best decision for the striker, especially to a club as big as Milan.
Given their success in the past few seasons, the 26-year-old could be perfect for what Milan needs in this exciting period for the club, who could well be Italian champions by the time Origi signs for the club in the coming weeks.
