Divock Origi has spoken of his disappointment at suffering Europa League final defeat.
Liverpool striker Divock Origi has spoken of his disappointment at losing the Europa League final with Liverpool.
Speaking to Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblade, he said he is still getting over a second final defeat, having lost to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final earlier in the season.
Origi rushed back from injury to be able to feature in the final, a risk with his place at Euro 2016 with Belgium on the line if he felt a setback.
He said that despite the loss, it was a decision he is glad to have made.
Origi said: “Two finals losses in one season of course hurts. It goes without saying that everyone was very disappointed.
“With the Europa League, I took a calculated risk to still play and it turned out well, because I have not felt [a setback].”
Along with Liverpool teammates Christian Benteke and Simon Mignolet, Origi is part of Belgium’s Euro 2016 squad, and is hoping to go one better.
He added, talking of the upcoming tournament: “I can still win a third final. We will do everything.”
Origi was a surprise this past season, displacing big money signing Christian Benteke in the side, after he himself had an underwhelming loan campaign at Lille a year earlier.
The appointment of new boss Jurgen Klopp was a game changer for Origi, who is competing also with Daniel Sturridge for a place leading the attack.
He added, speaking about his favoured role: “My personal preference is for the striker position, but I’m here to help the team. At Liverpool I already have played on the wing, or in a system with two strikers. There has always been competition, it brings out the best in us.”
As well as Benteke, Origi is battling for a place in Belgium’s Euro 2016 side with Romelu Lukaku and Michy Batshuayi.
