Manchester United made an attempt to sign the Liverpool forward way back in 2015.

Liverpool ace Sadio Mane spoke to reporters about how much he is enjoying life at Anfield, and opened up on how Manchester United tried to sign him when Louis van Gaal was in charge at Old Trafford in 2015, as quoted by the Express.
The 26-year-old eventually joined Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £34 million, and he has gone on to be a real hit on Merseyside, racking up 36 goals and 17 assists in 76 appearances in all competitions.
Liverpool are now considered to be Manchester City’s closest rivals for the Premier League title this season, but things could have been so different had the Senegalese chosen a move to Old Trafford instead of Anfield.
Mane spoke to reporters, and explained how United made an approach to sign him when he was playing for Southampton three years ago, as quoted by the Express:

“The wrong team wanted me – Manchester United! I spoke with Van Gaal, and they even made an offer. But for me it was not the right club.”
Next up for Liverpool is a trip to Leicester, and Mane will be a key figure for his side once again, as they look to make it four wins from four to start the season.
