Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named in the top 100 players of all time, and he is in front of some stellar names.
The list was compiled by GDC Media and it has got fans talking, with Virgil van Dijk, who is one of a number of current and active players on the list, making it to 65th place.
The Liverpool captain, who has won the Premier League title and European Cup under Jurgen Klopp, is ahead of Anfield icon, Steven Gerrard, who was named 82nd on the list, Frank Lampard, Ruud Gullit and Paul Scholes.
The 32-year-old, albeit he suffered a long-term injury a number of seasons ago, will still feel he can go again and win the lot on Merseyside.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are at the start of a rebuild, and if they want to rediscover the magic of their recent past, then van Dijk needs to find his old form again.
There is no doubt that when he was winning and racking up those trophies, he was regarded as one of the best players in the world, at the time, and the best defender.

Van Dijk isn’t ahead of Gerrard…or even Alan Hansen
Even the most ardent of Liverpool fans wouldn’t put van Dijk ahead of Gerrard because what he did for the club was just different, different level.
The former Liverpool skipper carried a team, far less in quality that is on display today, to European glory, as well as winning the FA Cup.
Added to that, some or even more, will argue that Alan Hansen is Liverpool’s greatest-ever centre-back, not van Dijk, yet he didn’t even make the top 100 list.
