Gabby Agbonlahor has named Liverpool midfielder Fabinho in his ‘flop Premier League Team of the Season’ alongside Tottenham’s club-record signing, Richarlison.

The former Aston Villa striker says Fabinho has been ‘very poor’ this season for Jurgen Klopp’s side and he thinks the 29-year-old Liverpool star’s legs have ‘gone’, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (31/05/23 at 8:55 am).

Only last season, the Reds were pushing to win every trophy possible, but fast forward to the present and they won’t be playing Champions League football next term after securing a fifth-placed finish when the 2022/23 season ended on Sunday.

A big reason behind Liverpool’s abject season has been their issues in the middle of the park.

Fabinho, who moved to Anfield in 2018, has previously been one of his side’s most important players, but during this campaign, his form has fallen off a cliff.

Does that warrant him being in the ‘Flop Premier League Team of the Season?’. Well, for Agbonlahor, he sits in the midfield, with Richarlison the ‘captain’ of the ship.

“Fabinho, high standards at Liverpool since he has been there,” said Agbonlahor. “I have watched him a lot this season.

“It looks like his legs have gone. Not the player he used to be. Very poor season.”

WILL FABINHO KEEP HIS LIVERPOOL MIDFIELD SPOT NEXT SEASON?

To nobody’s surprise, the midfield is now going to be refreshed ahead of the summer transfer window re-opening in July.

Those doors aren’t even open, yet it’s been suggested that Brighton and Argentina World Cup-winning star Alexis Mac Allister will be one of Klopp’s first signings of the summer.

Added to that, Leeds United’s Tyler Adams could be another player that is brought in – he was relegated with the Whites to the Championship, but it needs to be noted he missed the final few months through injury.
