James Milner has claimed that Takumi Minamino is looking ‘fantastic’ since training resumed at Liverpool last month.
Much was expected of the Japan international when Jurgen Klopp signed him in January.
Minamino had already impressed against Liverpool earlier this season after facing them in the Champions League for Red Bull Salzburg.
But it’s been an indifferent start to life at Anfield for the 25-year-old, who has clocked just 77 minutes of Premier League football since arriving.
However, it looks like he is dazzling behind the scenes at Melwood. Here’s what Milner told Goal about his team-mate.
“Taki has looked fantastic coming back in. This period might have helped him settle in, feeling like he’s been at the club longer than he has, really. It’s given him that extra time to get used to things.”
Milner is right. Not only did Minamino join a new in the middle of their season, but he joined Liverpool.
That’s significant because the standard is so high under Klopp that new additions are going to have to work that much harder, and play that much better, to stand out.
Plus, he has fairly difficult competition in the form of Sadio Mane.
Liverpool resume their Premier League campaign against Everton today and it’ll be fascinating to see how the new boy fares, if Klopp gives him a role to play.
