Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson is not injured.
The Scotland international came off for Kostas Tsimikas in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.
And then the Liverpool manager omitted him from the squad for Tuesday evening’s 2-1 victory away to Aston Villa, prompting additional concern.
However, the Reds boss has told the club’s official website that Robertson was merely left on Merseyside due to wanting him to get additional rest time.
He said after the Aston Villa victory: “Robbo was not in the squad today because I wanted to give him just a rest at home and bring another striker into the squad if we needed, that’s it.”
Sadio Mane’s brilliant header wound up giving Liverpool a massive three points away to Steven Gerrard’s outfit last night.
And here’s how Robertson himself reacted to the victory on Twitter:
Klopp’s side moved level on points with Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League table, but the Sky Blues can restore their three-point cushion if they win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux tonight.
Liverpool played like champions at Aston Villa last night; not so much the performance, which was rather ordinary, but the fact that the Reds still brought three points back to Merseyside illustrates that they have the resilience of potential champions and it’ll be fascinating to see how close the title race will go.
