Defending Spanish champions Atletico got the better of their city-rivals 2-0 at the Vicente Calderon in the first leg of the Copa del Rey last-16 tie.
Raul Garcia gave the hosts the lead in the 58th minute from the penalty spot, and Jose Maria Gimenez headed home the second in the 76th minute.
It was a very accomplished performance from Atletico watched by over 45,000 spectators, and it impressed Liverpool left-back Enrique.
