Arne Slot will hope to see Liverpool’s international stars return fresh and hungry for the upcoming season but one player has been described as “extremely exhausted” by his nation’s media.

Liverpool returned to their Kirkby base at the start of the month to kick-start their preparations for the 2024-25 Premier League season.

Only eight players were involved during the first day of training with the club’s international stars set to join at a later date based on how far they progressed in this summer’s tournaments.

The Reds had four players competing in the Euro 2024 and Copa America finals with Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold falling short with England while Luis Diaz‘s Colombia were beaten by Alexis Mac Allister‘s Argentina.

After joining Liverpool as a World Cup winner, Mac Allister will now return to Merseyside as a Copa America champion.

However, media from Argentina suggested that he may need an extended break after what they spotted in the final.

Argentine media react to Alexis Mac Allister at Copa America

Argentina lifted the Copa America trophy early on Monday morning after beating Colombia 1-0 at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Mac Allister started on the left for his national team and played the full 90 minutes as neither side were able to break the deadlock.

He remained on the pitch for the start of extra time before being replaced by Leandro Paredes in the 97th minute.

Argentine outlet TyC Sports gave Mac Allister the joint-lowest rating of any player on the team and suggested that he looked tired in his performance.

“Alexis was extremely exhausted. He tried to be the main player after Messi’s first injury. He almost scored with a header,” they wrote.

Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool next season

After a superb debut season at Anfield, Mac Allister will be looking to maintain his performance levels under Slot.

There should be no lack of confidence in his play after another superb summer with his national side but it seems as though a lengthy break may be needed to recharge his batteries.
