Pascal Struijk scored what could be a crucial goal in the battle to avoid the drop as Leeds earned a late point against Brighton – and Liverpool star Harvey Elliott praised him on Instagram, following his injury-time goal.
Going into the game, Leeds will have known that Tottenham edged Burnley aside to win 1-0 – and bettering that result would see them climb out of the relegation zone. They did just that against Brighton, but only late on.
Danny Welbeck gave Brighton the lead with a lovely chip after being played in by Yves Bissouma – the ex-Manchester United man shrugging off Diego Llorente to score. Leeds were excellent, creating a number of chances.
Indeed, Leeds tested Robert Sanchez numerous times – the Spaniard producing excellent saves to deny Mateusz Klich, Raphinha and Joe Gelhardt. Struijk netted late on, and he posted on Instagram afterwards.
Liverpool midfielder Elliott praises Leeds star Struijk on Instagram
The two have seemingly become close after Struijk broke Elliott’s ankle at the beginning of the season. Despite the injury, Elliott was sympathetic towards Struijk when the appeal of the defender’s red card was blocked.
That relationship has continued. Struijk’s goal not only saw Leeds climb out of the bottom three, leapfrogging Burnley. But it also drew praise from the Liverpool star on Instagram, among others including Struijk’s teammates.
The wonderkid midfielder, Elliott commented: “Love that amigo” on Struijk’s Instagram post.
