Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Celtic star Reo Hatate after his brace during Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over Rangers. The Scotland captain is clearly a fan of Celtic’s latest hero.
Coming into the match, Celtic were two points behind their Old Firm rivals Rangers – after closing the gap on the weekend following their win over Dundee United. A win against the Gers would see Celtic go top.
That is exactly what they got. Japan international Hatate scored his second and third goals for the Hoops – while Liel Abada netted his 13th goal of the season before half-time. Celtic kept a clean sheet, holding on to a 3-0 win.
Hatate is coming in for enormous praise on Twitter and from pundits alike after the match. His performances have been superb since moving from Japan to Celtic – and now, it is clear Celtic fan Robertson is also impressed.
Robertson on Hatate: Is new Celtic star Postecoglou’s best signing?
Obviously, Ange Postecoglou was tasked with moulding an entirely new Celtic side. The majority of the players that played on Wednesday night were new signings – other than Callum McGregor and Greg Taylor.
Kyogo Furuhashi has been superb, Joe Hart has been a leader, Cameron Carter-Vickers has been commanding at centre-back and Jota has been on fire – likely to be signed permanently. Hatate, though, is showing potential.
He could be just as good, if not better, than those signings – if his early displays are a sign. Football Scotland say he cost just £1.4million, and if so, that is an absolute bargain.
