Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has told TalkSPORT that Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford is “underrated”, a player you do not want to play against – because he makes defenders “worried” and can produce at any moment.
Rashford, 25, has made a wonderful start to the World Cup campaign. Last playing for England at Euro 2020, he had struggled at United during 2021-22. But this season, his form has been much improved – scoring eight goals in 19.
It saw him win a late call-up to Gareth Southgate’s side. Against Iran, he came off the bench to score in a matter of seconds. A late sub against USA, he started against Wales and scored twice in the 3-0 win. A stunning performance.
The £225,000-a-week star is joint first with a clutch of other World Cup stars in the race for the golden boot. In line for a start on Sunday in the last 16 against Senegal, Alexander-Arnold raved about him. He said Rashford is “underrated”.
“Excitement”, Alexander-Arnold said, when asked what Rashford brings. “When he steps on the pitch, the first you think is that he is going to use his speed, his pace to get in behind to get at people. He’s skillful, he can score and create.
“You don’t want to play against him because you’re worried what he is going to do. He’s an outstanding player. He’s underrated, he can win games for club and country – he’s shown that before and will continue to do that.”

When Rashford first burst onto the scene and starred in a United shirt, he drew comparisons with some of the world’s best talent. He was seen as England’s next-best thing. But, his form has died off in the last couple of years.
So, his form this season is perhaps something we have come to expect of Rashford – forgetting that actually, he is in producing some really impressive performances. That would add weight to Alexander-Arnold’s claim he is underrated.
