The Reds captain impressed from the bench in Friday’s Premier League win at Southampton.
Stan Collymore has given his honest opinion on Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson, acknowledging he has been critical of him over the years but stating he was crucial in Friday night’s Premier League 3-1 win over Southampton.
The Reds got off to a bad start at St Mary’s as Shane Long opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a composed strike from inside the area but Naby Keita headed the visitors level with his first goal for the club on 36 minutes.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s charges were edging close to a point which would have dealt Liverpool a major blow in the title race but Mohamed Salah proved the hero with a superb solo goal on 80 minutes before Henderson wrapped up the victory four minutes from time.
Brought on by Jurgen Klopp just before the hour, the impressive Henderson won the header which set Salah on his way for the Merseysiders’ crucial second goal, and scored his first of the season to allay the visiting contingent’s increasingly fraying nerves.
