The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Liverpool would pay the Benfica striker a lower salary which would include add-ons.

Romano has added that Liverpool are in talks with Benfica over the transfer of the 22-year-old Uruguay international striker.

There have been reports in the media claiming that Nunez would earn €250,000 (£213,517) per week as salary.

The journalist had earlier reported a formal bid from Liverpool for Nunez.

Darwin Nunez to Liverpool looks likely

In our view, it looks likely that Liverpool will sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica in the summer transfer window.

Clubs such as Manchester United have already been told that the youngster wants to move to Liverpool.

The Merseyside club have already made a bid, which shows just how keen they are on Nunez, who scored 26 goals and gave four assists in the league and scored six goals in the Champions League for Benfica this past season.

Nunez is one of the best young strikers around, and he would be a great addition to the Liverpool team.
