Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has name-checked four players he believes have contributed massively to the club’s impressive season in the Premier League and Champions League in 2018-19.

The Reds are top of the domestic table with 76 points from 31 games played, while in Europe they overcame Bayern Munich to set up a quarter-final tie with Porto, all the while playing solid and exciting football under Jurgen Klopp.

Dalglish, one of Liverpool’s greatest players of all time, believes that the last two transfer windows proved crucial as they allowed Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker to come in, the duo having massively improved the side, which was previously deemed somewhat frail at the back.

In addition, the 68-year-old was also pleased with how young full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson are faring for the Reds.

In conversation with the official Liverpool website, Dalglish said: “You never know when your success is going to come, but certainly the January transfer window when they brought in Virgil and the summer when they brought in Alisson Becker – two fantastic signings.”

He also name-checked the two other players, adding: “You’ve got two young full-backs, Trent and Robbo [who have] done unbelievably well for two young guys. They’ve been really successful in what they’ve done.”

Dalglish has won a multitude of trophies with Liverpool over the years, including three European Cups, eight English First Division titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups, according to Transfermarkt.

Up next for the Merseysiders is a home game against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.
