Liverpool are reportedly keen to bring in Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey in 2019.
Liverpool remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season after a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Saturday evening, with Daniel Sturridge scoring a late, late equaliser for the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp’s men slipped to second as Manchester City overtook them, but remain in the title picture – and may be eyeing up a major addition in 2019 to bolster their title hopes.
The Mirror report that Liverpool are heading the chase for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, having failed with an approach for the Welshman over the summer.
It’s stated that Ramsey – who is a free agent at the end of the season and has allegedly had a contract offer pulled by the Gunners – is ‘excited’ about the prospect of joining Liverpool in order to work under Klopp, and whether the Reds attempt a cut-price deal in January or wait to land him for nothing next summer, his potential arrival may be bad news for two Liverpool midfielders.
The first is James Milner. The veteran will be 33 in January, but he is currently enjoying a superb run of form in the heart of Klopp’s midfield, and will hope to win his third Premier League title this term.
However, Milner is out of contract next summer, and talk of a return to boyhood club Leeds United is ramping up, meaning Liverpool may allow him to leave for free if they can land Ramsey in a bargain deal themselves, given the Englishman’s advancing years.
Another player primed for the exit if Ramsey does arrive is Adam Lallana, who has endured an injury hell over the last year having once been central to Klopp’s pressing style from midfield.
The 30-year-old’s time as a key Liverpool player appears to have passed, and if a similar ball-playing midfielder arrives in Ramsey, then it may be time for him to move on – and whilst Ramsey’s potential arrival would give Klopp another superb option, he would surely have to offload a midfielder or two to justify a move.
