Newcastle United are reportedly tracking Liverpool striker Divock Origi as they look to make use of the loan market this summer.

According to a report from the Chronicle, Newcastle are thought to be interested in signing Liverpool striker Divock Origi this summer as Rafa Benitez looks to stretch his budget as far as possible using the loan market.

Origi has endured a difficult time with the Reds, having struggled to break into the first-team on a regular basis since Jurgen Klopp’s arrival and having spent much of his time on the club’s books out on loan.

It would be little surprise if Origi had just one more opportunity to make an impact out on loan – if he does indeed leave temporarily – before he was all but written off by the Liverpool hierarchy. And that is why sending him to Newcastle seems to make so much sense this summer.

The Magpies should not be competing as high as the Reds next term, so Origi impressing at St James’ Park can only prove beneficial to Klopp’s men if his goals come against some of the other teams looking to challenge for the title in the Premier League.

And when you consider the impact that Benitez has seemingly had on Kenedy since he arrived on loan from Chelsea in January, Liverpool should seriously consider sending Origi to the Magpies in the hope that the Spaniard can make a similar impression on the Belgian during the coming season.

The worst case scenario for Liverpool is that Origi returns no higher in the pecking order and his value – which probably is not that high anyway at the moment – falls, but if Benitez is able to work his magic, the 23-year-old may come back to Merseyside with a new level of confidence and something of a proven track record in the Premier League.
