Liverpool would have to spend a fortune to sign Alisson, but Kasper Schmeichel could be a solid bit of business for the Reds.

The goalkeeping position at Liverpool has been problematic for a number of seasons now, and fans are clamouring to see Jurgen Klopp sign a replacement for Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

Neither one of the pair has convinced between the sticks at Anfield, and reports have claimed the Reds want to sign Roma’s Brazilian stopper Alisson Becker this summer.

The 25-year-old, who is currently on World Cup duty, is one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A along with Samir Handanovic and he had an exceptional season at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Guardian last month claimed Liverpool face a struggle to sign him given the huge asking price of £79 million and Real Madrid also supposedly being interested, but there is one man who could represent a fine alternative target and he would come at a fraction of the price of Alisson.

Leicester City star Kasper Schmeichel would represent a solid short term fix for the goalkeeping issue in case there really is no chance of signing Alisson.

Not only does Schmeichel have Premier League experience, but he has, of course, won the title after the Foxes’ fairy tale 2015/16 season.

The former Leeds United man is generally a very dependable top flight stopper, and he has been in great form for Denmark at the World Cup against Peru and Australia so far.

Mignolet’s future is uncertain, and Karius has a long way to go before restoring his reputation following his Champions League howlers, so a player like Schmeichel could be Liverpool’s answer ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
