John Hartson believes that Liverpool should have kept hold of Jon Flanagan.

Liverpool's Jon Flanagan

Speaking to BBC Radio 5, former Arsenal striker John Hartson has suggested that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made an error in allowing Jon Flanagan to leave this summer.

Left-back has proven to be a bit of a problem position for Liverpool in recent times as first choice Alberto Moreno failed to convince after putting in a host of poor performances during the latter part of last season.

Moreno has started off the current Premier League campaign in similarly shaky fashion as well and as a result, manager Jurgen Klopp has decided to drop the Spaniard for the last two games, going with midfielder James Milner at left back instead.

Now Klopp is said to be in the market to sign a new full-back as an alternative to Moreno and reports have claimed that Dutch international Bruno Martins Indi is currently a target for Reds.

Former Arsenal striker John Hartson has not been left impressed by the manner at which Klopp has decided to address the left-back situation at Liverpool and has stated that the German boss should not have allowed Jon Flanagan to leave for Burnley on loan this summer.

The 41-year-old told BBC Radio 5, “He’s [Klopp] had a good young left back (in Flanagan) and if he doesn’t fancy Moreno, there’s your man.”

Liverpool prepare to square off against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in their upcoming Premier League clash on Saturday and it will be interesting to see if Klopp is able to bring in a new left-back in time for the encounter.
