The Real Madrid ace would be an excellent signing for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp manager

Liverpool have arguably one of the best rearguards in world football, but it could be argued that they are still one world-class centre-back away from having the very best defensive unit in the game.

The Reds signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in January 2018, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £75 million, and the Dutchman has totally transformed the Merseyside outfit’s fortunes.

Jürgen Klopp hasn’t settled on a consistent partner for the Dutchman, however, with Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all being given their chance to shine.

If Liverpool are to bring in another top class defender, they will obviously have to spend heavily, and a superb option for them could be Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane, who might be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The France international is undoubtedly one of the world’s best central defenders, and if Liverpool do manage to sign him, their already strong defence would surely become almost impenetrable.

According to Spanish publication Diario Gol, Varane, 25, could be available for £50 million this summer, and in today’s market that would surely have to be considered as decent value for money for someone with the Frenchman’s quality and reputation.

Although here hasn’t been any credible reports linking Liverpool with a move for the Madrid ace, Klopp will surely be monitoring his situation at the Bernabeu, and if the German does manage to bring him to Anfield, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Reds.
