Interest is hotting up in Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer after he was left out of the 1-0 Chelsea win over Everton on Saturday – and Liverpool should consider a surprise move, for a player that gave Andy Robertson a hard time.
Hudson-Odoi, 21, is expected to leave Chelsea in the coming weeks. Not a part of the matchday squad on Saturday, the signings of Raheem Sterling and further back, Kai Havertz, have seen Hudson-Odoi drop down the pecking order.
With the World Cup in Qatar approaching this summer, England international Hudson-Odoi needs a move if he is to stand a chance of breaking into Gareth Southgate’s side. Everton, Newcastle, Palace and West Ham are interested.
But Liverpool could do with a bit more cover in the final third. This summer, they have let Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi and Sadio Mane depart. Only Darwin Nunez, and rookie Fabio Carvalho have come in at Anfield as cover.

Liverpool should consider Hudson-Odoi: Robertson knows he is good
Back in April 2019, Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-0. Robertson came up against Hudson-Odoi. Despite the Reds keeping a clean sheet and winning the match, Hudson-Odoi left a lasting impression on Robertson.
Quoted by Chelsea’s website, he says: “I’m sure he has a fantastic career ahead of him. It’s better not to put too much pressure on him because he can be a great player. I was just happy to see the back of him when he was taken off.”
He is a top, top player. The £120k-a-week wide man has entered the final two years of his contract at Stamford Bridge. A move to Anfield would at least see him act as cover for Mo Salah – and play in the Cup competitions this season.
If he wants to remain at one of England’s biggest clubs, but still get a decent amount of game time, Liverpool would be a brilliant move. The Reds need cover, Hudson-Odoi would surely entertain a move. Robertson is a fan. It makes sense.
