Liverpool are interested in Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez but he is one of last players the club needs.

Liverpool have made an enquiry to Leicester City about Riyad Mahrez, according to the Express, with it becoming increasingly likely the attacking midfielder will leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

The Daily Mail claim that Roma have had an offer of around £30m, plus add-ons, rejected by the Foxes as they hold out for closer to £50m for Mahrez.

The player himself is understood to favour a move to Arsenal, with the Gunners have also asked to be informed about any developments concerning the 26-year-old.

Roma view Mahrez as the ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah, who became the Reds’ club record signing earlier this month and is one of the reasons his Algerian counterpart is not needed at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp is already having to accommodate attack-minded midfielders such as Salah, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho into his star-studded starting XI and it is arguably the strongest area of the German’s squad.

However, central defence still remains an issue, while the purchase of Andrew Robertson from Hull City has sorted out the left-back problem somewhat, there is still plenty of evidence that a back line that conceded more than Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Manchester United in the Premier League last term is what needs the most attention.
