Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing the former Manchester United ace from Crystal Palace.
According to a report from the Sun, Liverpool are interested in signing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha this summer, but Jürgen Klopp should be wary of a move for the Ivory Coast international, after his failed stint at Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has been in fine form for the Eagles this season, and has chalked up eight goals and five assists in 28 Premier League appearances thus far, but things haven’t always been such plain sailing for the winger.
Zaha left Selhurst Park to join United in January 2013, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £15 million, but he failed to establish himself at Old Trafford, making just four appearances for the Red Devils.
He eventually moved back to south London on a permanent deal in the winter of 2015, and has proved that he might just be better suited to a so-called smaller football club, where the levels of expectation are considerably lower.
Liverpool surely need to take heed, and do their due diligence on the Ivorian’s career path, because the pressure to succeed at Anfield is similar to that at Old Trafford.
Zaha is obviously a very talented player, but whether he possesses the attributes needed to help take the Merseyside outfit to another level is questionable to say the least.
Klopp will undoubtedly have plenty of money available with which to bolster his squad this summer, but he should seriously consider avoiding a move for the Palace man, considering the fact that he struggled so badly during a spell with Liverpool’s bitter rivals five years ago.
He has, of course, matured since then, but £40 million seems like a lot of money to find out whether he can cut it at the highest level.
