Liverpool scouts impressed by former Celtic target; club will sell for £12m

Liverpool scouts were reportedly impressed by Galatasaray defender Sacha Boey on a recent trip to watch the Turkish giants, with the Reds able to sign the right-back for just €15m (£12m).

According to Takvim, the Merseyside club were pleased with what the saw from the Cameroonian international this weekend as the fullback started and played the entire 90 in Galatasaray’s 0-0 draw against Adana Demirspor, with Olympique Marseille, Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais also impressed with Boey’s performance.

As per the report, Galatasaray have already set a £12m price tag for the defender ahead of the January transfer window, a fee that would see the Turkish side make a huge profit on Boey after the Istanbul giants beat Celtic to the 22-year-old’s signature last year.

Speaking to Aslan Arenasi, the former Rennes prospect revealed that Celtic were interested in signing him in 2021, yet Boey snubbed Ange Postecoglou’s side to instead move to Turkey with Galatasaray, where the defender’s development has progressed nicely.

And now, one year after the fullback’s move to Istanbul, Liverpool are now interested in signing Boey, who could provide strong competition in the Merseyside squad for the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Calvin Ramsay in the right-back position.

Moreover, with Galatasaray listing the defender for just £12m, a potential bargain could be on the cards for Liverpool if they can beat the likes of Marseille and Lyon to Boey’s signature in 2023, with interest likely to only increase from here for the 22-year-old.

Liverpool should do all they can to sign Boey in 2023

Liverpool’s right-back problems have been quite the talking point this season, with Alexander-Arnold’s performances being well below par for the Reds as the England international now runs the risk of, incredibly, missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad. Yet signing Boey in January could provide a solution.

Solid competition in training could be the catalyst that leads Alexander-Arnold to step his game up and to return to the levels that made the Liverpool star the player he is today, and for Boey, signing for a club as big as the Reds would be a huge career move for the youngster.
