Liverpool are showing a renewed interest in signing Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio after scouting him this week.

Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio was scouted by Liverpool as he featured for Portugal against Bosnia and Herzeogvina on Monday.

That is according to 90Min, who claim that Liverpool were watching Inacio in action over in Zenica.

Portugal racked up a comfortable win on Monday night, hammering Bosnia and Herzegovina 5-0.

The big names were on the scoresheet; Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix all found the net.

Liverpool had their sights set elsewhere though with a new defender on their radar…

Liverpool scout Portugal defender Goncalo Inacio

90Min claim that Liverpool were scouting Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio during Monday’s clash.

It’s stated that Liverpool have been keeping track of Inacio for more than a year now and Monday’s game with Bosnia presented another scouting chance.

Inacio played the full 90 minutes against Bosnia, helping Portugal claim a clean sheet whilst partnering Ruben Dias in the heart of defence.

The 22-year-old has been impressing for a while now and will surely land a move away from Sporting in the near future.

Liverpool may well face some competition for Inacio; Manchester United were keen on Inacio back in June according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

Liverpool make more sense than Manchester United for Inacio

Jurgen Klopp’s men may make more sense though given that Liverpool don’t have a natural left-footed centre back right now.

Joel Matip’s contract comes to an end next summer and landing a long-term left-footed centre back could be in Liverpool’s plans.

United, on the other hand, already have a left-footed centre back that cost good money in Lisandro Martinez.

Adding Inacio too would be a surprise given the other areas of the United squad that need attention.

Liverpool may well move for Inacio in 2024, but will still have to pull out all the stops to convince him to join.
