Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia has given his thoughts on the Premier League title race between the Reds and Manchester City ahead of both teams being in action on Sunday.

The Merseysiders will be hoping that Crystal Palace can do them a favour when they host Man City at Selhurst Park in Sunday’s 2:05pm kickoff before Jurgen Klopp’s charges get their home game against Chelsea underway at 4:30pm.

Liverpool and Man City have traded places multiple times at the top of the table and, with just a few games left to go this season, there remains very little between the two sides.

Hyypia, who won multiple trophies with the Reds including the 2005 Champions League, does not see Man City dropping too many more points this season, hence the importance of making sure they can capitalise on any more slip-ups.

However, the retired Finland international – who made over 450 appearances for Liverpool, according to Transfermarkt – insists that thinking ahead would be a “big mistake” and is adamant that Klopp will have told his charges many times that they need to take it one game at a time.

“I don’t think City will drop many points this season anymore and we have to do the same and just wait for their slip-up – and when they slip up, we need to be there,” Hyypia told the official Liverpool website.

“But you need to concentrate game by game. It would be a big mistake to think ahead. You have to concentrate on the next game and I think Jurgen Klopp is wise enough that he’s telling the players many times a day that the next game is the most important.”
