The Reds talisman could soon overtake the Magpies legend in terms of fastest time to score 50 Premier League goals for a single club.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is within reach of a Premier League record held by Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and could go on to break it in one of the Reds’ next two games.

The Egyptian has the opportunity to become the fastest player in Premier League history to score 50 goals for a single club, if he can find the net in his 64th or 65th appearance for the Merseyside outfit (Goal.com).

This week, Jurgen Klopp’s charges have two games – Wednesday night’s Anfield clash with Watford and Sunday’s trip to Goodison Park to face Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Notwithstanding any injury or suspension issues, Salah is likely to be involved in both of these games, and should he feature and score against either side, he will break the record.

Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer, is the current holder, having reached the milestone in 66 games for the Magpies.

When asked about the possibility of breaking the record and what it means to him, Salah told the official Liverpool matchday programme, as quoted by Sky Sports News: “It would be nice to score number 50, number 51 and 52! I always push myself to score more goals and to perform better.

“Of course records are nice but for me the Premier League is now the most important thing. It is a very big week. There are three games in eight days and if we can do well in them and still be top of the table that’s big for us. After that there will only be nine games left and we will have time to recover for them and time to think about that.”

Salah won the Premier League’s Golden Boot in his debut season at Anfield, scoring 32 goals, and this term he is currently on 17 goals, level at the summit with Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero (BBC Sport).
