Liverpool have ruled out making a deadline day push for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie even though he’s interested in the move.

Piero Hincapie fancies joining Liverpool but looks set to stay at Bayer Leverkusen beyond the transfer deadline.

That is according to reporter Ben Jacobs, who claims that Liverpool will not be making a move for Hincapie today.

It’s stated that Liverpool have never really shown a concrete interest in signing Hincapie and a deadline day move has been ruled out.

Jacobs claims that Hincapie would ‘welcome’ an approach from Liverpool but he won’t be Anfield-bound today.

West Ham United showed an interest in Hincapie earlier in the summer but never chose to formalise their interest with a bid.

That means Hincapie is almost certain to stay at Leverkusen beyond the transfer deadline but English teams will continue to track him.

It looks like Liverpool’s only signing on deadline day will be Ryan Gravenberch even if fans would love to see another defender arrive.

Piero Hincapie could fit the bill for Liverpool in 2024

Hincapie isn’t joining Liverpool now but we think he could be on their radar for 2024.

Liverpool have been moving right back Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield, which is the popular tactic at the moment.

Most clubs like to move the opposite full back infield in order to build a back three with two ‘midfielders’ ahead of them.

Liverpool don’t quite have the right players for that approach with Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas more natural left backs.

Signing somebody can play as a left back and is comfortable on left of a back three would be ideal – and Hincapie can do that.

Hincapie has played as a left back and as a centre back with Leverkusen, impressing with his pace and ability on the ball.

The Ecuadorian can still be a rash defender at times but his fit for that specific role is a strong one, and we can see Liverpool looking his way in 2024.
