Liverpool want Ron-Robert Zieler and the goalkeeper is thought to be frustrated that Hannover 96 haven’t offered him a new contract.

Liverpool have been linked with a couple of goalkeepers in recent months with Zieler one of them.

Sandhausen’s Patrick Drewes was another one, but he has now signed a new contract and looks set to stay in Germany.

Bild reported in November that Liverpool are looking to sign Zieler, finding him particularly attractive because he counts as a homegrown player.

Zieler’s history in the Manchester United ranks mean that the German actually counts as a homegrown player in England.

Don’t worry, we’re not expecting Alisson to be going anywhere but Adrian is out of contract at the end of the season.

Add in that Caoimhin Kelleher may attract interest from teams wanting him to become their number one, and Liverpool may well need to add another stopper.

Liverpool target Ron Robert-Zieler frustrated at Hannover

Zieler’s contract officially expires this summer but Hannover can extend that thanks to a one-year option in the deal.

That deal will be activated once Zieler plays 25 games this season, and he is currently on 17.

Bild state that Zieler and his representatives are actually disappointed because Hannover haven’t offered a longer extension.

Zieler seemingly believes that he deserves a longer deal on better terms, whereas Hannover have shown no indication of even opening talks.

It’s added that if Liverpool get serious with their interest in him, Zieler wouldn’t be averse to the move even if he loves playing for Hannover.

The German World Cup winner, now 33, has plenty to think about in the second half of the season.

Zieler is likely to be contracted to Hannover for next year but whether he actually wants to stay is up for debate; he may feel sso disrespected by Hannover that Liverpool can tempt him to Anfield.

Zieler also needs to think about whether he wants to be a first-choice goalkeeper, or whether to be a backup at Liverpool.

The veteran stopper didn’t really stick around for a backup role at Leicester City following a 2016 move, but that’s what Liverpool would be offering; the coming months promise to be very interesting for Zieler and his future.
