Liverpool are ready to offload Taiwo Awoniyi, according to Goal.com, amid reported interest from Celtic.

The Daily Star reported on August 26 that Celtic are interested in signing Awoniyi from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

The report claimed that the Glasgow giants are looking at the 23-year-old striker as a potential replacement for Odsonne Edouard.

The Nigeria Under-23 international striker will reportedly cost £9 million in transfer fee.

According to Goal.com, Liverpool are willing to let Awoniyi go, with Mainz and Stuttgart interested in the youngster.

No need for another striker?

Celtic recently signed Albian Ajeti from West Ham United, and now manager Neil Lennon has three senior strikers in his first-team squad.

Edouard is the first-choice striker at Celtic at the moment, while Leigh Griffiths remains a very capable player upfront.

If Edouard leaves this summer, then the Glasgow giants will need a replacement, but it is hard to see the Hoops sell such an important player this summer.

After all, Celtic are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th season in a row in 2020-21.
