Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer.
The big Norway international is linked with a move away from Parkhead and, according to The Daily Star, he is wanted at Liverpool.
Ajer is still only 22 but he has a decent bit of European and international experience already, having earned 14 caps for his country.
The young centre-back has the potential to be one heck of a footballer. Just ask former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers has managed both Liverpool and Celtic, and here’s what he said about the powerhouse – who stands at 6’5 – back in 2018.
He told Sky Sports: “Kris will be a top-class player, he has all the attributes. At 20, he is 6ft 5ins, he can pass the ball, and on a evening like this he showed he can defend.”
At the time, some fans of Premier League clubs might’ve dismissed Rodgers’s opinion, on the basis that he wound up being sacked by the Anfield club.
When that happens, your status always takes a knock, but he remains one of the most exciting young managers in football, evident by his work with Leicester City.
And if he says Ajer is destined to be ‘top class’ then it’s an opinion that really needs to be respected.
Do Liverpool need the youngster? Not really, because they have a lot of centre-backs and even more young ones coming through like Billy Koumetio and Sepp van den Berg, but if Ajer’s as good as their former boss says then maybe it’s worth it to add another.
