According to Napoli Magazine, Liverpool are planning a player-plus-cash deal for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Although Napoli are not willing to accept anything less than €100 million (£89.09 million) as transfer fee for Koulibaly, Liverpool would like to make a cash offer of €60 million (£53.54 million) and include a player, likely to be striker Divock Origi, according to the report.

Good plan from Liverpool?

Although Joe Gomez is a very good defender, he is 23 years of age, and a player of Koulibaly’s quality and experience would be great to partner Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool defence.

With Dejan Lovren also at Anfield, the arrival of the 28-year-old Senegal international – described by former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina and his ex-Napoli teammate as “extraordinary” to TMW – would enhance the competition for places at the back.

Divock Origi has been at Liverpool since 2014, and although the striker has scored some important goals in the Premier League and in the Champions League, he is essentially a squad player.

The Belgium international is unlikely to play regularly for the Reds next season, and including him in a deal to sign Koulibaly would make sense for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
