Yet if Spurs were to line up with two central defenders, Sanchez would not even get into their team ahead of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
Liverpool could desperately do with that selection headache in defence, having been shown up on the opening day of the season by conceding three against Watford.
Further up the pitch, it is Liverpool who are spoiled for choice with regards to their wingers.
The Reds spent big to sign Mohamed Salah from Roma after a terrific season in which he scored 15 times in Serie A.
Salah has already made an impact for Liverpool since arriving and looks a serious goal threat, adding pace and incision from the wing.
It is this pace and ability to stretch a defence which Spurs are missing from their attack, and their inability to address it was their one omission from the past transfer window.
Tottenham did not manage to sign a winger, and Salah would have been perfect for them.
As it is both teams have strengthened positions where they already had huge depth, and signed players who would have made the other side ‘complete’.
Their failure to do so could yet be their undoing.
