The Athletic reported on Thursday that Southampton made a move to sign Phillips from Premier League rivals Liverpool on summer transfer deadline day.
The Saints reportedly tried to make a deal happen, but Liverpool were reluctant to let go of the 25-year-old central defender, described by manager Jurgen Klopp as “unbelievable” in Goal.com in April 2021.
