Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool wanted to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021, according to Marca.

Marca have reported that Liverpool showed interest in signing the 23-year-old midfielder from Spanish and European giants Madrid in the summer of 2021.

Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern also showed interest in the youngster.

Liverpool and Bayern wanted to know what happens with the future of Valverde, according to Marca.

The report in the Spanish publication has claimed that Madrid responded to Liverpool and Bayern by handing the Uruguay international midfielder a contract until the summer of 2027.

Federico Valverde from Real Madrid to Liverpool was unlikely

In our view, it was always unlikely that Liverpool would be able to sign Valverde from Madrid last summer.

The midfielder has been on the books of Los Blancos since 2016, and he has been very good for the first team.

Valverde made 21 starts and 12 substitute appearances in La Liga for Madrid in 2019-20 and made 15 starts and nine substitute appearances in the league in 2020-21.

Madrid are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they do not tend to sell their best players or youngsters they think could be world class in the future.
