Liverpool are reportedly prepared to break their transfer record to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk this summer.
According to reports from Liverpool Echo, the Reds haven’t been put off by Van Dijk’s £50 million price tag. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton are reportedly in the hunt to sign the Dutch defender.
Liverpool’s biggest signing till date was Andy Carroll when they signed him in January 2011 from Newcastle United for a reported transfer fee of £35 million (ESPN).
The report says Van Dijk is Klopp’s top defensive target but Liverpool need to achieve Champions League qualification in order to lure him away from St Mary’s.

Liverpool have money to spend and they are prepared to make the 25-year-old one of the club’s highest wage earners.
Van Dijk joined Southampton in 2015 from Celtic, and took no time to establish himself as one of the most accomplished centre-backs in the Premier League.
He is an excellent reader of the game and is a good passer. Van Dijk would improve any Premier League side, and Liverpool’s task of landing him will be easier if they finish in the top four.
Van Dijk wants to play Champions League football and he is highly likely to leave the club this summer.
