Liverpool’s hopes of signing Lyon wonderkid Rayan Cherki may be boosted amid claims that talks over a new deal have stalled.
Back in January, reports suggested that Liverpool were interested in raiding Lyon to bring Cherki over to Mersyeside.
There were doubts over Cherki’s future in January and those concerns only appear to be growing stronger.
Foot Mercato claim that Lyon have made Cherki’s contract a priority given that his current deal expires in the summer of 2023.
However, Cherki is allegedly demanding a ‘strong salary increase’ and Lyon don’t quite agree with his view, meaning a summer sale could be on the cards.
Lyon won’t want to see Cherki walk way from Lyon in 2023 and may be forced to cash in this summer before he can leave at the end of his contract.
If Liverpool are interested in the teenager, this summer may be the time to strike for Cherki.
18-year-old Cherki has come up through the Lyon ranks and has been tipped for stardom even if it hasn’t quite materialised yet.
The winger hasn’t scored a league goal this season but does have nine goals an 10 assists in 63 first-team outings for Lyon.

Cherki has shown so much potential that he has caught the eye of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, with Liverpool seemingly impressed too.
You do though have to question if Liverpool really need to be adding Cherki at this point in time.
Liverpool already have five star attackers as well as a young winger emerging in Harvey Elliott, whilst Fabio Carvalho and Ben Doak could yet arrive.
If Liverpool do sign Cherki, it may make the most sense to snap him up in a cut-price move, taking advantage of that contract situation before then loaning him out.
