Liverpool came from 1-0 down to beat Preston 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at Deepdale this afternoon; here are the ratings for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Brad Jones 7 – made a number of good saves to deny Joe Garner, but was left helpless as Josh Brownhill scored from close range in the first half.
Martin Kelly 7 – dealt well with Paul Gallagher down Preston’s left hand side, and also nullified any threat from the overlapping left back David Buchanan.
Martin Skrtel 6 – had some trouble with Garner’s movement in the first half, often looking to slow to react to danger.
Andre Wisdom 6 – the same can largely be said for Wisdom, too. The sharp movement of Garner posed problems in the first half.
John Flanagan 6 – again out of position at left back, Flanagan was matched up against a lively Will Hayhurst, who beat Flanagan a number of times in the first period.
Lucas Leiva 7 – the usual from the Brazilian; sat in front of the back four and passed the ball well but could’ve been tighter to Brownhill behind Garner.
Emre Can 7 – kept things ticking over in the Liverpool midfield before being taken off with a calf strain in the first half.
Joe Allen 7 – got on the ball in advanced positions in the first half and offered intricate passing around the edge of the box.
Philippe Coutinho 8 – always looking to create, always posing problems to the Preston defence. Lost his footing a couple of times but Preston had trouble with his quick feet.
Rickie Lambert 6 – stung Jamie Jones’ hands with a left footed shot, but other than that, didn’t particularly look like scoring.
Fabio Borini 6 – had one snap shot in the first half and made some good runs, but was largely anonymous – seemed resigned to the fact this would be his last Liverpool game before a permanent move to Sunderland.
Notable substitutes
Jordon Ibe 9 – bright throughout with pace and direct runs; should’ve scored in the first half but created Suso’s equaliser, before a superb run to set up Peterson’s goal.
Suso 8 – second half substitute but impressed during his time on the pitch, bending home a superb equaliser with his left foot.
