Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Egyptian winger Mohammed Salah, The Telegraph report.
Salah would become the second most expensive player signed by Premier League clubs so far this summer at £38 million, behind only Manchester City’s swoop for Bernardo Silva.
City were always going to be ambitious, but the scale of Liverpool’s spending – The Telegraph report they are expected to break their transfer record again after the Salah deal – should worry those who finished above them in the table last year.
Chelsea supporters have little need to worry, the Blues will splash out, it’s only a matter of time.
Tottenham Hotspur fans though are entitled to wonder if their club is willing to match Liverpool’s ambition.

Spurs have only spent more than £25 million three times, two coming in 2013, and success on their big money deals has been limited to say the least.
Roberto Soldado was a flop and Moussa Sissoko has been disastrous, while after four seasons, Erik Lamela is still an enigma whose promising form has been hampered by injury. He remains Tottenham’s record signing and is still yet to really repay the fee.
Yet if Spurs are to maintain a big distance between themselves and big spending Liverpool, they will need to splash out themselves.

How far they are prepared to go is questionable, with big commitments already made towards paying towards their new stadium.
BILD report Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa will be available at £35 million this summer, a reasonable fee for a player of his calibre, who is still just 26.
Activity of Tottenham’s rivals, particularly Liverpool, puts the pressure on Tottenham to go out and spend themselves.
Costa would be an ideal option and show that Spurs really mean business too.
