Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has told talkSPORT that it was nice to hear that Everton manager Ronald Koeman has backed his side to win the Premier League title this season.

Koeman recently told ESPN FC that Liverpool can be the English champions this season.

The Reds are going strong in the league and are currently at the top of the table with 26 points from 11 matches.

Mignolet, who is 28 years of age, is pleased with Koeman’s comments, but the Belgium international has stated that he and his teammates are not getting carried away.

“It’s nice to hear, but it’s still early days, you know,” Mignolet told talkSPORT when asked about Koeman’s comments.

“Like you say, the massive fixture list in the winter schedule. There’s still a long way to go before the end of the season, and there are many good teams in the Premier League these days.”

Liverpool are playing brilliant football at the moment and are genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season.

However, as Mignolet points out, there is a long way to go this season and things could change.

What the Reds need to do is become stronger defensively and stop conceding cheap goals.

Liverpool will also face competition from Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United for the Premier League title this season.

The Merseyside outfit will take on Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
