Liverpool player ratings vs Chelsea: Skrtel and Lucas shine

We rate Liverpool’s players from their 1-1 draw with Chelsea last night.

Simon Mignolet – 6

A quiet night for the Belgian, which will have pleased him. Mignolet’s confidence has taken a battering in recent times, but more displays like this should help him regain some composure.

Emre Can – 6

Gave away the penalty, when he tripped Eden Hazard, but an otherwise impressive showing. May not have been signed by Liverpool to play at centre-back, but he’s doing a good job.

Martin Skrtel – 8

An excellent performance from Skrtel. He thrives on the physical battle.

Mamadou Sakho – 7

A tidy display from Sakho, who receives unfair criticism for his lack of composure in possession. The Frenchman may be unorthodox, but he rarely loses the ball and he put in a good display last night.

Lazar Markovic – 6

Seems to be growing into his role at Liverpool. Did a decent job, even if he wasn’t too integral in an attacking sense.

Alberto Moreno – 7

A constant threat going forward and disciplined defensively, Moreno looks perfectly suited to the current system Brendan Rodgers has deployed. One of the better additions Liverpool made last summer.

Lucas – 8

He plays a role of such importance in this Liverpool team. His discipline and defensive qualities give their defence brilliant protection and he was at his very best against Chelsea.

Steven Gerrard – 7

Seemingly always in the thick of the action, Gerrard lead by example and put in an eye-catching performance.

Jordan Henderson – 6

Energetic and exuberant, Henderson had a decent match, even if he wasn’t the most notable performer.

Philippe Coutinho – 7

The Brazilian can be a constant menace when on the top of his game and he was last night.

Raheem Sterling – 7

A stunning goal highlighted the vast amount of potential that Sterling has. He is unquestionably a match-winner.

Substitutes:

Adam Lallana – 6

A decent impact after coming off the bench.
