Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is set for a first-team opportunity after missing out on a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Caoimhin Kelleher will make rare Premier League appearances after Liverpool learned of Alisson’s injury.

The Reds drew 1-1 at Manchester City over the weekend, coming from a goal down to secure a point at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool had a late scare as goalkeeper Alisson went down with an injury, but he battled through to see out the game.

Sadly for the Reds, Alisson is now facing a period on the sidelines with that injury turning out to be more than just a knock.

Jurgen Klopp has now told Sky Sports that Alisson will be missing for around two weeks.

Alisson is now expected to miss five matches, starting with Thursday’s Europa League clash against LASK.

The Brazilian would then miss three Premier League games against Fulham, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace before also being ruled out against Union Saint-Gilloise.

Kelleher would have likely started the Europa League games anyway, but he now has a rare Premier League opportunity.

Kelleher has only ever played five times in the Premier League but should now add to that tally in December.

The Irishman is no doubt desperate to play more first-team football having turned 25 just last week.

That was a big topic of conversation over the summer, with many expecting him to leave in search of a more important role elsewhere.

The Athletic claimed that Brighton, Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur were all interested in signing Kelleher.

Those clubs signed other goalkeepers; Bart Verbruggen, Mark Flekken and Guglielmo Vicario all made moves, leaving Kelleher to stick around at Anfield.

The Athletic added that Kelleher had not been sulking after missing out on a move and was simply getting his head down at Liverpool.

Tottenham are unlikely to be interested in Kelleher now they have Vicario, who has been shining in the Premier League this season.

Kelleher will now look to take his chance though, with other Premier League clubs no doubt paying close attention to him in the coming weeks.
