Liverpool player names the teammate who is so ‘difficult’ to play against in training

Neco Williams has admitted to Liverpool’s official website that it is very difficult coming up against Sadio Mane in training.

Williams is only just breaking into Liverpool’s first-team, but big things are now expected of the 19-year-old in the future.

The youngster has just been rewarded with a new long-term contract at Liverpool, after a fine breakthrough season at Anfield.

And Williams feels that his development is aided as he is constantly having to face up against Mane in training.

“Most sessions I do at Melwood, I am up against Sadio,” he said.

“Because in the teams we do, we have the starting team and the other team, and mostly every session when we have games back to back – a game always around the corner – I’m always up against Sadio.

“So, every session, it is difficult for me because I am up against one of the best wingers in the world, so I think that has definitely improved me as a player.

“I don’t think there is any other way of becoming a better player than coming up against the best wingers in the world.”

Far more experienced defenders than Williams have struggled when put up against Mane on matchday.

The Senegalese forward has developed a reputation as one of the finest attackers in the Premier League, and he is arguably Liverpool’s most potent force going forward.

Williams’ tough grounding in Liverpool training has clearly helped him, as he has never looked overawed when given a chance in the first-team.

Williams played 11 matches for Jurgen Klopp’s side last term, and is expected to play a covering role again over the upcoming campaign.
