Liverpool star James Milner said on Sky Sports Football (9:20pm, November 22, 2020) that he knows that he is not going to start regularly.
Milner, who is a very versatile footballer and can play as a full-back, midfielder or winger, made the comments following Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Leicester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
The former Leeds United and Aston Villa star started the match at right-back and had a very good game, earning lofty praise from manager Jurgen Klopp.
It was the 34-year-old’s first league start of the season, and the Englishman has admitted that he knows that he is not going to start regularly.
Milner had added that he does not plan to leave Liverpool anytime soon, with his current contract running until the summer of 2022.
The Englishman said on Sky Sports Football (9:20pm, November 22, 2020): “I want to start as many games as I can, and that’s probably not going to be every game these days, with me getting slightly older, but wherever I am asked, I will do the job I can, always delighted to contribute.”
Milner added while referencing to a door named after him at Liverpool’s new training ground: “Hopefully that’s not the exit door he was hinting at, but hopefully I will be here a bit longer.”
Important player for Liverpool
Milner has been superb for Liverpool over the years, and his adaptability, hard work and consistency have been hugely important for the Reds in their success.
While the 34-year-old may not start each and every game, his presence on the substitutes’ bench is massive for the Reds.
