Some of the Reds fanbase weren’t happy with how Suarez celebrated his Barca goal against the Anfield side at Camp Nou.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has issued a warning for Luis Suarez as Barcelona prepare to face the Reds at Anfield in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges will look to overturn a three-goal deficit on Tuesday as the Blaugrana put in an impressive performance at Camp Nou in the first leg, with Lionel Messi scoring a brace.

Suarez, lining up front with Messi and with fellow Liverpool old-boy Philippe Coutinho also in the XI, opened the scoring on 26 minutes with a flick beyond the reach of Alisson Becker.

The Uruguay international celebrated his goal passionately, something which irked a number of Reds fans, who thought he was being disrespectful – some of their reaction can be seen on Suarez’s post-match tweet.

Thompson, a former Liverpool captain, thought Suarez’s actions at Camp Nou crossed the line and predicted that the Anfield crowd will make life difficult for him in Tuesday’s game.

“Some of his attitude he had in the first leg was outrageous. I think he crossed that line. I know a lot of supporters out there were absolutely outraged at what he did,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Winding him up sometimes only makes him play better, but this is Anfield. I think the fans do realise and I think he’ll get a rough reception and I hope the players wind him up. He might get a little angry, but we’re 3-0 down, we have to be street-savvy on that pitch.”

Liverpool triumphed in their last Premier League game, claiming a late, hard-fought 3-2 win over Newcastle United, while Barca rested most of its stars in their 2-0 loss at Celta Vigo, played after they had already sealed the La Liga title.
