Liverpool had high hopes for Paul Glatzel once upon a time, but terrible injuries have seen the striker’s progress stunted.
Glatzel, now 20, had a stunning record for Liverpool’s Under-18’s.
In 27 outings, Glatzel racked up 21 goals and three assists. Fans were hoping that Glatzel would kick on and become a first-team star.
Instead, injuries have ravaged Glatzel. A torn ACL in 2019 devastated Glatzel, just as he was getting a chance with Liverpool in pre-season.
Last November, Glatzel made his return but quickly suffered ankle ligament damage.
Liverpool loaned Glatzel to Tranmere Rovers over the summer in order to give him first-team football – but that has gone awry too.
Glatzel hasn’t played a minute of league action since August. He hasn’t even been on the bench for Tranmere’s last three games.
Still, Liverpool fans were left somewhat stunned when Glatzel turned out in a Reds shirt on Saturday.
Per the terms of Glatzel’s loan, he can play for Liverpool’s Under-23’s if Tranmere don’t want to select him.

That’s what happened on Saturday, meaning Glatzel started against Arsenal Under-23’s.
Wouldn’t you just know it, Glatzel went and scored. He bagged the second in a 3-0 Liverpool win, reminding people of his quality.
Maybe Glatzel will now get more games for Tranmere, maybe he will have to come back to Liverpool.
Either way, he cannot just sit around at Tranmere, and seeing Glatzel score on Saturday will have delighted many Liverpool fans.
