Liverpool want Patrick Drewes as they target the SV Sandhausen goalkeeper as new cover for Alisson moving forward.

The Reds will be in the market for a number of signings in 2023 after a disappointing season so far.

We’re all expecting a midfield overhaul next year and Jurgen Klopp is bound to want options in other areas too.

Something that fans may not get too giddy about is the idea of signing another goalkeeper.

Liverpool want Patrick Drewes

Liverpool already have one of the world’s very best goalkeepers in Alisson.

Behind him there is Caoimhin Kelleher, who is a talented goalkeeper but has picked up a few injuries in recent times.

Adrian San Miguel is there too, offering veteran cover at the age of 35.

The Spaniard is out of contract in the summer though and Liverpool may choose to let him go and bring in a new stopper.

Sport Bild now claim that Liverpool already have a name in mind – SV Sandhausen stopper Patrick Drewers.

It’s stated that Liverpool have already made contact with the German’s representatives to try and tee up a 2023 move.

Drewes is out of contract in the summer but a one-year option can be activated if he is playing regularly.

The 29-year-old is actually out injured at the moment with a torn calf muscle.

Formerly of Wolfsburg, Drewes turned out for Wurzburger Kickers and VfL Bochum before heading to Sandhausen in 2021.

The 6ft 4in stopper is now one of the best goalkeepers in Germany’s second tier and he appears to have put himself on Klopp’s radar.

Drewes was labelled ‘outstanding’ by Kicker for his displays last season, naming him as the stop stopper in 2. Bundesliga.

This will come down to what Drewes really wants to do.

29 is early to go and only play as a second or even third-choice goalkeeper and few could blame him for wanting first-team football elsewhere.

Still, the pull of Liverpool is incredible and especially to a player who has been playing in Germany’s lower leagues.

Drewes will have plenty to think about put the lure of Anfield could be too strong for the little-known goalkeeper.
