Liverpool want Patrick Drewes but the SV Sandhausen goalkeeper has dodged questions about a potential move to Anfield in 2023.

The Reds have been so up and down this season.

One minute Liverpool are picking up wins over Manchester City or beating the likes of Ajax and Napoli in Europe.

The next, Liverpool are losing in the Premier League to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

It’s clear that Jurgen Klopp needs signings in 2023 to help bring new energy into this Liverpool squad – but few had a second-tier German player in mind.

Liverpool want Patrick Drewes

Most Liverpool fans are focused on midfielder and who could come in to bolster Klopp’s engine room.

That’s the top priority but Liverpool may also want a new goalkeeper.

Caoimhin Kelleher has endured frustrating injuries of late and may even fancy move on to become a first-choice goalkeeper elsewhere.

Adrian is out of contract in the summer of 2023 so Liverpool may need to think about landing another goalkeeper to cover for Alisson.

That’s where Patrick Drewes may come in.

We’ll forgive you if you haven’t heard of Drewes; Sandhausen don’t make too many headlines in England.

The 29-year-old was formerly in the Wolfsburg ranks before shining with Wurzburg Kickers.

Now first-choice goalkeeper at Sandhausen after a spell with VfL Bochum, Drewes is being linked with a shock move to Liverpool.

Sport Bild claim that Liverpool have already made contact with his representatives to discuss a potential move to Anfield.

Kicker named Drewes as the best goalkeeper in 2. Bundesliga last season, branding him ‘outstanding’, so maybe Klopp and co have stumbled onto a quality backup goalkeeper.

Drewes isn’t having any of it though.

When Weser-Kurier in Germany approached Drewes for a comment about Liverpool, the goalkeeper simply responded ‘I don’t want to comment on that’.

Drewes is letting the rumours go over his head and added that he is on his way back from injury at the moment.

Drewes has dodged the question for now but it would be hard for a lower league player in Germany to ignore the prospect of move to Liverpool and 2023 could be a big year for the stopper.
