Owen Hargreaves thinks Liverpool had a co-ordinated plan during the World Cup to try and convince Jude Bellingham to join them.
Hargreaves has been speaking on BT Sport’s Champions League Tonight after seeing Liverpool lose 5-2 to Real Madrid.
The former England international was tackling the question of whether Bellingham would even want to join Liverpool following that kind of heavy defeat.
Hargreaves thinks Bellingham would love to join a project whenever he decides to leave Borussia Dortmund.
That could be this summer and Hargreaves thinks there was a major hint offered at the World Cup.
Hargreaves spotted the amount of time Liverpool duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson were spending with Bellingham over in Qatar.
Hargreaves thinks that was a co-ordinated plan by Jurgen Klopp to try and work on a move and build relationships with Bellingham to tempt him towards Liverpool.
“I thought the pictures of him at the World Cup sitting with Trent and Henderson told a lot,” said Hargreaves. “I think obviously Klopp has pulled them; ’you man mark him, every time he goes somewhere’, and that plays a big part, you start to build relationships and friendships and you get communicating with people, so when I saw that I thought ‘ooh, that looked… that looked like they’re working on it’,” he added.

Jude Bellingham faces difficult Liverpool decision
Bellingham looks likely to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer and Liverpool are desperate to sign him.
The Reds have seemingly made Bellingham their top target for the summer but this season has been a real problem.
Liverpool look set to miss out on the top four and Tuesday’s humiliation at the hands of Real means they’re likely out of the Champions League too.
There is a real chance that the Reds aren’t in the Champions League next season and that dents their hopes of signing Bellingham.
Manchester City and Real themselves are likely to want Bellingham too so Liverpool’s struggles could be a major problem.
The Mirror reported in December that Bellingham’s father Mark favours seeing his son sign for Liverpool over other clubs.
That’s some form of hope for Liverpool and the Reds may have to hope that the World Cup man-marking ends up paying off with Bellingham choosing to join Alexander-Arnold and Henderson at Anfield.
