Liverpool are backing away from the race for defender Micky van de Ven in a real boost for Tottenham Hotspur.
Micky van de Ven seemingly isn’t a key target for Liverpool anymore amid strong links to Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to a report from Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, who claim that Liverpool are backing away from Van de Ven.
The Reds have been heavily linked with Van de Ven of late and even more so after the appointment of Jorg Schmadtke.
Schmadtke was the man who signed Van de Ven for Wolfsburg, paying around €3.5million (£3million) to land him from Volendam in 2021.
A reunion at Liverpool had been rumoured but seemingly won’t be happening with Liverpool now cooling their interest considerably.

Tottenham Hotspur confident of signing Micky van de Ven
Liverpool backing away now means that Tottenham are the clear favourites to sign Van de Ven.
Spurs would love to add two centre backs this summer and we can imagine that signing a left-footer will be in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
Van de Ven has emerged as a top target and The Guardian claim that Tottenham are confident about striking a £30million deal.
The Dutchman is big, strong, very fast and comfortable on the ball, making him a fine fit for Postecoglou’s high-line approach.
Van de Ven has become a star with Wolfsburg boss Niko Kovac branding him ‘extraordinary’ and Fabrizio Romano claims that he has a ‘strong desire’ to join Spurs.
Learning that Liverpool are out of the race will surely leave Tottenham feeling very positive about this chase and a deal could accelerate this week.

Liverpool will surely target a left-sided defender down the line
Van de Ven seemed to fit the bill for Liverpool as he would have brought that left-footed balance to Jurgen Klopp’s defence.
Liverpool’s four main centre backs – Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip – are all naturally right-footed.
Liverpool may well love to add that left-footed profile to their defence but this summer may not be the right time.
The Reds are unlikely to add another centre back without letting one go and there appears to be little chance of an exit right now.
Gomez could leave down the line whilst Matip is now into the final years of his deal, is almost 32 and has notable injury problems.
2024 may be the time for Liverpool to add a left-footer, with Van de Ven surely off the market by that point.
